Google Set to Unveil 10-Inch Nexus Tablet

There’s going to be a definite showdown in the remaining days of October 2012 as Apple,Google and Microsoft are all set to take the covers off their respective tablets. While Apple is set to unveil the iPad mini and Microsoft launches sales of its Surface tablets, Google has revealed that it plans to take the wraps off its new 10-inch Nexus tablet. Google is reportedly going to unveil the high-end 10-inch tablet in New York on October 29, the same day as Microsoft’s

Google, in collaboration with Samsung, is all set to take on its competition with the co-branded 10-inch Nexus tablet. Its prime rival will be the Apple’s iPad. A large number of tablets have entered the market this year and consumers have evidently taken to these high-tech touch- based devices. So far Apple has outshone all other companies with its iPad but innovative tablets from Microsoft and Google seem to be coming up to offer the iPad some serious competition. Google and Samsung are launching this new tablet in direct competition with Apple’s third generation iPad.

Google will be showcasing its latest operating system, Android 4.2 at this event. This will be an updated version of Jelly Bean and not the speculated Key Lime Pie. The October 29 event will also witness the announcement of three Nexus devices that will be running this updated version of Android. Other than the 10-inch tablet by Samsung Electronics, a Nexus phone in partnership with LG and a revised version of the Nexus 7 tablet will also be shown off at the event.

The likely launch of the 10-inch Nexus was first predicted by Richard Shim, an analyst at NPD DisplaySearch. Shim had revealed to CNET that this speculation had a high likelihood of taking real shape as it was based on “supply chain indications” that indicate a high probability of the product being released.Even then Shim’s word carried weight as earlier this year he had accurately predicted the likely launch of the Kindle Fire tablets that were eventually released in September.

The 10-inch Nexus will boast brilliant display specs that go beyond those of the iPad. The 10-inch Nexus will have a 10.1-inch display with a pixel density higher than even that of Apple’s third-gen iPad. The third generation iPad has a 2048×1536 display with a PPI (pixels per inch) of 264.The 10-inch Nexus on the other hand will boast a much higher screen resolution of 2560×1600
and a PPI of 299, surpassing the iPad.

The tablet signifies a change in Google’s choice of hardware collaborator. Earlier, for the Nexus 7, Google had partnered with Asus. Nonetheless, the 10-inch Nexus won’t be Google and Samsung’s first attempt at co-producing products. Both have jointly launched the Galaxy Nexus smartphones in the past which proved to be enormously popular. The 10-inch Nexus is also
going to be a high-end tablet, another first time for Google whose Nexus 7 was aimed at mass consumers. According to Shim, the 10-inch Nexus is probably going to cost somewhere around $500 unlike the Nexus 7 which sold for $200.

Also in the pipeline is Apple’s imminent launch of the iPad mini. This device is set to take on the Nexus 7, targeting the same consumer market as Google’s smaller tablet.
